Cellular Life
Chemigrams are wildly experimental and beautiful creations that occur when black and white dark room paper is exposed to sunlight. In this case, the paper was sprayed with lacquer in the darkroom. Then in a long process it was removed into daylight and painstakingly dipped into photographic developer, then water, then photographic fixer. This rotation was repeated over and over and over. The exposure to light caused the colors to develop (though the colors you see here are digitally enhanced), and the slow erosion of the lacquer allowed the photographic chemicals to reach the paper in unexpected ways, creating intricate patterns.
