Cyanotype, stitching, and beading.
Cyanotype Selfie
In the spring of 2024, two of my dearest friends in life and art and I did a series of cyanotype images of ourselves. I prepared the cotton fabric, and one sunny morning we gathered in my friend, Belan’s, yard with her husband as our helper. The light sensitive fabric was kept in a heavy black trash bag until the last moment, then quickly pulled out and flung on the ground, as we dropped onto it, lying there for fifteen minutes.
After a good rinse, an ethereal image of my body remained on this particular piece of fabric. I have since enhanced the image with stitching, buttons, and beadwork. On that morning, we danced with the universe, preserving our communion for posterity.
