Artist Statement

I paint bold abstracts emphasizing color, complex, tactile surfaces, and incised marks. I use oil paint modified with cold wax as my medium. With a variety of found and home made tools, I add and subtract as I build up layer after layer. The result is a slow dance between me and the work. I remain open and experimental throughout, trusting my process and working intuitively.

I work in series that arise as recurring questions: what I consume and what I give back; what I find within when I go quiet; what moves through me and demands release; what questions of process, design, or material demands my attention. The series share an emphasis on color, mark marking, and the physical texture of history, hidden and revealed.

This work began In 2025. After a decade of exhibiting as a photographer, I completed the ArtToLife Creative Visionary Program (CVP) in the spring of that year. I had long used painting as an element of the mixed media works that grew out of my photography practice. During CVP, I turned to oil and cold wax as my medium of choice and fully embraced painting as a primary practice.
