Meditations

Color, line, shape, pattern, texture - the source of infinite variety and hour upon hour spent giving way to pure, intuitive play. Nothing brings me greater happiness. A recent online workshop on the cut-outs of Matisse has reminded me of this, the root of my journey in art. I feel as if I have taken a long roundabout trip and arrived again at home at last. Delighted to have taken the trip and yet glad to be back. This project is born in joy - the joy of hand printing the papers, cutting into them with abandon, and arranging the shapes like a child at play. The title stems from the realization that when I am at work on these pieces the chattering mind disappears without any effort to my part. Perhaps it is appropriate that this work begins as the crazy year, 2020, comes to an end. Hope rides on the wind like a faint whiff of spring - exhuberance and color seem the only appropriate response.
