The Series:

Soundings

Soundings emphasizes gestural loops, scratched lines, and cursive-like marks to hint of broken and buried bits of script or notation. These marks, hovering between writing and drawing, give the work its voice. The calligraphic gestures are a transcription of something sensed rather than seen. I am sounding and mapping truths that lie deep within myself.

Weather

Weather turns from the inward contemplation of Soundings to a sense of pouring forth. These pieces speak to forces that arise, erupt, and flow through me. They are elemental, turbulent, and extroverted. The lyrical marks of Soundings still appear, but the surface and its history take a greater prominence.

Throughout, the surface of each painting is built layer by layer into a rich and complex tapestry whose physical texture both hides and reveals its history.
