Songs of Joy

The year 2020 is almost half gone, and it has been a bear - we’ve seen pandemic, economic collapse, social unrest, and political hijinks that give the most jaded reason for pause. I have at times felt sad, broken, angry, fearful, & anxious, and yet I choose to rise. I embarked on this project with a full spirit, honoring life in all its irrepressible, ever-rising exuberance. After I had begun, a friend introduced me to the song, “Life on Earth”, by Snow Patrol, particularly the line, “All this ancient wildness that we don’t understand.” That line made me realize in a deep place that while the coronavirus awakens existential fears, I am also in awe of the terrible beauty of “all this ancient wildness.” These chemigrams are my songs of joy, exaltation, celebration, & triumph.
